East Chapel Hill High School is sending 23 student athletes to universities and colleges around the country with scholarship money to play sports. ECHHS gathered the senior group for one last get-together for some recognition and Alfredo’s pizza on Thursday. The group included, from left to right: Jorge Campos, soccer, Greensboro College; Michelle White, volleyball, Campbell University; DeMario Evans, basketball, St. Andrews College; Tess Darling, tennis, UNC Asheville; David “D.J.” Edwards, basketball, Wilkes Community College; Patch Owens, soccer, Mary Washington College, but will work at the Duke soccer camp before leaving for Fredricksburg; Hannah Diggs, basketball, Fayetteville State; Scot Meyer, lacrosse, Duke University, and open to any offers for a part-time job; Jeremy Harn, basketball, UNC Asheville; Mary Beth Finnegan, volleyball, Meredith College; Javaris Quinn, basketball, Pitt Community College; Vince Williams, football, UNC Pembroke, who plans on being on campus by the second session of summer school; Lee McKinnis, football, leaving June 30 for Blinn College, Texas; Richard Dowdy, basketball, Barton College; Rico Diggins, football, UNC Pembroke; Amanda Vredenburgh, field hockey, Davidson College; Ty Alston, basketball, UNC Pembroke; D.J. Sharp, basketball, Pitt Community College, and working at Carol Woods this summer to raise cash; and “Big Will” Barnett, football, Louisburg College.
