The Triangle United Soccer Association's U16 Gold boys team captured the club's first U.S. Youth Soccer Region III Championship last weekend, beating Lonestar Red from Austin, Texas, 4-2, in the decisive match. Coached by UNC head coach Elmar Bolowich, they went 6-0 in the regional in Raleigh, winning three matches by shutout.

In order to qualify for the Region III Tournament, TUSA Gold 16s already had to win the North Carolina State Cup, which it did back in May. The CASL Boys U15 and U17 and Triangle FC Boys U19 Navy all reached the Region III championship finals, but each lost to a team from Texas.

The Region III Tournament comprised U14-U19 boys' and girls' state cup winners from the Carolinas, the American Southeast, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Champions earned a berth to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas, on July 22-27.

The players included: Christian Alfonso (NW Guilford High School); Alex Bolowich (Chapel Hill High School); Nathan Bunch (Enloe); Chad Drimer (Green Hope); Luke Garner (Cedar Ridge); Evan Harvey (Apex); Trey Johnson (East Wake); Zabarle Kolle (Northern); Glen Alan Long (Page); Robert Lovejoy (Paige); German Mendoza (Jordan); Senyonjo Mukungu (Jordan); Ezra Ntirugelegwa (Jordan); McAmos Paye (East Wake); Sanket Prabhu (Enloe); Jordan Rouse (Enloe); Aniekan Udoka (Grimsley).

If you would like to help donate money for their trip to Little Rock, please send a check written out to Triangle United, c/o U16 Gold Boys, PO Box 2321, Chapel Hill, NC 27515. All donations are tax deductible, as Triangle United is a 501(c)3 organization.
