East Chapel Hill senior George Spears worked out recently at a three-day camp at UNC and hopes he made an impression on the Carolina coaching staff.
"I felt like things went real well," Spears told Scout.com. Coach Tommy Thigpen "said that I looked really good and ... he said he would like to work with me more."
Spears, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker, didn't leave camp with an offer, but stayed upbeat, given that he's transferred twice in three years, making it a bit hard for coaches to get a line on him.
"It being my senior year coming up, I haven't had any offers yet so I just wanted to go out there and show them what I can do and hopefully get an offer from them," Spears said, who's heard from several schools within the state, has plans to camp with Duke, N.C. State and Wake Forest by summer's end.
"He's just a great kid and then you can see he has great worth ethic -- the kid works extremely hard," Hargrave Military Academy head coach Robert Prunty said. "... He benches 385 pounds, squats almost 600 pounds, and he runs well. You can see the kid just needs to be polished."
