YOUTH FOOTBALL

Registration opens Monday for the Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department's youth football programs for the following age groups: FLAG Football League (ages 5-6 as of Aug. 1), Tackle Pee Wee League (ages 7-8), Tackle Mite League (ages 9-10) and Tackle Midget League (ages 11-12).

The fee is $52 for Orange County residents and $91 for out-of-county residents. Registration forms are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are available at the department office 100 N. Greensboro St.

Practices will begin in late July and games will start in September and run through October. Teams will compete in the Central Piedmont Football League, which comprises 19 organizations throughout the heart of the state.



FALL BASEBALL

Carrboro will also offer a fall baseball program for ages 6-15 as of Oct. 15. Registration is currently being accepted at the Recreation Department with a fee of $52 for Orange County residents and $91 for out of county residents.



SOCCER CAMPS

Carrboro will join with Triangle Futbol Club to offer three different soccer camps July 21-24. A full-day camp and a half-day camp will be offered for ages 6-12, and a Mini-kickers camp will be offered for ages 3-5.

The full-day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day and costs $175, while the half-day camp runs 8:30-11:30 a.m. and costs $95. The mini-kickers camp will be held 8:30-9:30 a.m. and has a fee of $35.

VOLUNTEER COACHING

The Carrboro Rec and Parks Department is looking for volunteer coaches for the 2008 Youth Fall Baseball Program. Coaches must exhibit the ability to organize team practices and communicate effectively with players, parents and Recreation Department staff. They must also exhibit the ability to teach proper playing skills and fundamentals, proper sportsmanship and provide an enjoyable atmosphere at practices and games. To receive a volunteer coaches application or additional information, contact the Rec Department.



C.L.A.S.S.

The C.L.A.S.S. (Children Learning Athletic Sports Skills) program, designed for children ages 4-6, will offer a soccer session for kids and their parents. The goal of the program is to introduce the fundamentals of soccer, with the instructor guiding both the child and parent in understanding the skills of passing, dribbling, trapping and shooting. The program will be held on Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. Sept. 6-Oct. 11. The cost is $47 per child. Pre-registration is required.

The Chapel Hill Parks and Rec Department is accepting registration for adult and youth tennis classes, senior tennis, youth flag football and youth tackle football.

Tennis classes are limited to eight participants per class, and fees and times vary. Senior tennis is free for ages 55 and over.

Youth flag football, for ages 5-6, costs $45 for Orange County residents and $54 for out-of-county residents. Youth tackle football has teams for ages 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 and costs $55 for county residents, $65 for non-residents. The registration deadlines for both is Aug. 1 or until full.
