With a big win over archrival East Chapel Hill (and the Hodgin Cup that goes with it) in hand, Chapel Hill High School now gets down to the business of the PAC-6 race.
If East's Wildcats are the Tigers' biggest rival, CHHS is in action this week against the team that counts as its most bitter rival: CHHS (4-2 overall, 2-0 PAC) travels to Northern Durham for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday at Durham County Stadium.
In other PAC-6 games, East Chapel Hill hosts Roxboro Person, while Durham Hillside is at Durham Riverside and Durham Jordan is at Southern Durham. Person carries a 2-4 record into the game against East (0-6), but that includes a forfeit to Burlington Williams because of an inelegible player.
Four Piedmont Athletic Conference teams have 4-2 records -- Chapel Hill, Southern, Hillside and Jordan -- and thus have met the minimum requirements for a post-season playoff berth. Chapel Hill and Southern Durham are tied for the conference lead at 2-0 in league play.
In the Mid-State 2-A Conference, Cardinal Gibbons (3-3) is at Cedar Ridge (2-4) in what could be a pivotal game. Both are 1-0 in conference play. Other games feature 5-1 Northwood at Graham (2-4) and struggling Burlington Cummings (1-5) at Orange (3-3).
Carrboro (0-7) steps out of conference to play at winless independent Granville Central.

On Sunday, N&O columnist Caulton Tudor wrote that North Carolina will win the remainder of its football games. ACC Now blogger J.P. Giglio, a colleague of Tudor's, counters it's not going to happen. (Found at
