UNC VS. GA. TECH

Football: Kenan Stadium

Noon, Saturday

Television: Raycom Sports (WRAL-5, locally).

The teams: No. 22 Georgia Tech (7-2, 4-2) Yellow Jackets & No. 19 North Carolina (6-2, 2-2) Tar Heels.

The coaches: Paul Johnson, who is a graduate of Western Carolina and was on the short list of candidates for the NC job two years ago, is 7-2 in his first year at Georgia Tech, (114-41 in 12 seasons overall.). Butch Davis is 10-10-0 in his second year at UNC, (61-30-0, 8 years overall)

Noteworthy: The game will be televised as the ACC Game of the Week. ... It should prove to be a pivotal game in the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division standings; the loser will have three ACC losses. ... Georgia Tech is one of the few schools in America with three team nicknames: Yellow Jackets, 'Ramblin Wreck' & Engineers. ... North Carolina had a bye last weekend and has not played since a 45-24 victory over then-No. 23 Boston College on Oct. 25. ... Georgia Tech is 4-0 in noon game so far this season. ... UNC's last win improved Carolina to 4-1 at home this season and 8-3 under head coach Butch Davis. ... Georgia is coming off an impressive 31-28 win over Florida State in Atlanta. At 6-2, Carolina is off to its best start since 1997 when UNC won its first eight games of the year. At this point in the season last year, Carolina was 2-6. ... The Tar Heels are bowl eligible for the first time since 2004 when they played in the Continental Tire Bowl. One more win would ensure the Tar Heels of a winning season for the first time since going 8-5 in 2001.
