East Chapel Hill had plenty to cheer about after an appearance on BET's "106 and Park Wild Out Wednesday." A team of current and former members of the East Chapel Hill High School cheerleaders, organized by Vanessa Diggs and Tahvyea Rains, were invited on the June 10 show after one team member saw BET was recruiting and sent in a video of the cheerleaders performing. They won against a team from New Jersey. The video can be seen on BET's site at www.bet.com/OnTV/BETShows/106andpark/.

The East team included Allison Blalock, Kaetetai Farrington, Katherine Holcomb, Abriana Johnson, Alice Keith, Carlissa Purefoy, Della Purefoy, Essence Smith, Ayanna Wade and Tiaunna Weaver.

Williams to Montreat

Recent Chapel Hill High School graduate Travis Williams has signed on to play basketball at Montreat College, Cavaliers coach Jonathan Bennett announced. "As soon as I drove through the Montreat gate and set foot on campus, I knew I wanted to be here," Williams said. "It just felt right."

He is the son of Joni and Bookie Williams, natives of Chapel Hill, and plans to major in history at Montreat.

Williams, who earned honorable mention on the PAC-6 all-conference team last season, played his senior year under head coach Tod Morgan. He won the Tiger Pride Award his senior year at Chapel Hill High for athletic and academic excellence. He also had the Assist to Turnover Ratio award in his sophomore and junior years at East Chapel Hill High School.

Greenberg takes over at Williams College

Former East Chapel Hill High School standout Dan Greenberg has been named head tennis coach at his alma mater, Williams College ('08), making him one of the youngest NCAA coaches in the nation.

One of four brothers to help East Chapel Hill win a string of state championships, Greenberg was the 2005 Rookie of the Year and the 2008 Player of the year for the New England Small Colleges Athletic Conference.

At Williams, Greenberg major-ed in English, was a Class of 1960 Scholar, was selected to read an original creative writing at convocation and served as a junior adviser. Greenberg twice earned All-America honors in singles (2006, 2008) and in doubles play in 2008.

After graduation, he was hired as an assistant pro at the Hollow Rock Racquet Club in Durham. In the fall of 2008 he became a volunteer coach at UNC, where he helped head coach Sam Paul plan and lead practices, and assisted with administrative duties.

In the fall of his senior year Greenberg won the ITA New England title and advanced to the ITA National Small College Championships where he placed third. Greenberg opened his Eph career by earning the NESCAC Rookie of the Year award.

Children's races will take place at approximately 9 a.m. after the four-mile race has finished, followed by music and refreshment. school's cross-country and track teams coached by Ron Olsen, and the UW honors student still holds the N.C. high school record (4:04.38) for the 1,600 meters.

Bolas was the only student-athlete from a Big Ten Conference institution to earn Academic All-America honors. He is a three-time All-American on the track and has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors four times.

Bolas most recently earned second-team All-Big Ten honors for his runner-up finish in the 1,500 meters at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the same event. He will compete in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Champion-ships, June 25-28, in Eugene, Ore.
