TRACK — Carolina Godiva Track Club Summer Series, 7 p.m., Belk Track on the UNC campus. This 'Short Night' meet includes a 1,500m, 100, 1,500 walk, 400, 3K. The suggested and always welcomed donation is $1. Contact: Charles Alden (919) 384-7698.

FIELD HOCKEY — USA National Futures Championship begins, (with Chapel Hill High School's Jessica Barfield, Kerry Kiddoo of East Chapel Hill and Carrboro High's Neela Mahanty trying out for spots on the Jr. Olympic teams.) It runs June 24-30 at Virginia Beach, Va.

SWIMMING — Summer League meets: Exchange-Sunset Creek at Heritage Hills-CH Community Center, Chapel Hill Country Club-Ridgewood at Farm-Meadowmont YMCA, Hollow Rock at Southern Village-Governor's Club. Events start at 9 a.m.

JUNE 29
BASEBALL — CCSSL: Cedar Ridge at Orange, Chapel Hill at East Chapel Hill, Northwest Guilford at Carrboro.

GOLF — Sectional qualifying tournament for United States Golf Association's Senior Open, at the Governors Club. Admission is free for spectators.

JUNE 30
SOFTBALL — Carrboro: The championship game of Carrboro's summer Co-Rec League is scheduled (pending rain and lord knows what else) for Hank Anderson Comunnity Park, field No. 3, at 7 p.m. If both finalists have just one loss after that, a second game to decide the double-elimination tournament is scheduled to start at 8:10 p.m. The rain date is Thursday.

JULY 1
GOLF — Qualifying tournament for the Carolinas Golf Association Amateur Championship, at the Governors Club. Admission is free for spectators.

SWIMMING — Summer League meets: Chapel Hill Tennis Club-Stoneridge at Hollow Rock, Farm-Meadowmont YMCA at Heritage Hills-CH Community Center, Exchange-Sunset Creek at Southern Village-Governor's Club. Events start at 5 p.m.

TRACK — Carolina Godiva Track Club Summer Series, 7 p.m., Belk Track on the UNC campus. This 'Long Night' meet includes a mile run, 200-meter dash, a one-mile race-walk, 800 meters and a 5K (3.1 miles). The suggested and always welcomed donation is $1. Contact: Charles Alden (919) 384-7698.

JULY 4
ROAD RACE — The annual Four on the Fourth is a four-mile run through the wooded neighborhoods of Carrboro, stepping off at 8 a.m. on the morning of Independence Day. The first 300 people to register receive a pair of socks commemorating the race. Baby joggers are welcome. Children's races will take place at approximately 9 a.m. after the four-mile race has finished, followed by music and refreshment. Proceeds go to support the Community Partners of the Cardinal Track Club.

JULY 7
SWIMMING — Summer League meets: Southern Village-Governor's Club at Chapel Hill Country Club-Ridgewood, Hollow Rock at Exchange-Sunset Creek, Heritage Hills-CH Community Center at Chapel Hill Tennis Club-Stoneridge. Events start at 5 p.m.

JULY 11
CYCLING — Duke MM Ride 50K & 100K: road bike rides start outside Cameron Indoor Stadium on the Duke campus and roill through rural Durham and Orange Counties. Both routes go west through Duke Forest. The 100 K route continues deep into rural Orange County before returning to Duke. The terrain is typical for the Piedmont area of North Carolina — through forests and farms, with short but frequent rolling hills. Both rides will begin at 8 am.. Both routes will stay open until 3 pm. There will be rest stops and SAG vans throughout the routes. The registration fee ($30 in advance, or $40 after July 1) helps support the families and patients undergoing treatment at the Multiple Myeloma Center at Duke as well as to support research against this disease.For more information, see /www.dukemultiplemyelomabikeride.com/ or email dukemmmetric@gmail.com/.

CYCLING — Ride for the Land: Triangle Land Conservancy will host its 4th annual 'Freewheeling Farmland Frolic' to encourage protection of the farms and forests of Chatham County. Online registration until July 9 is $30. Day-of-the event registration is $35 (if available. Registration is limited to 300 riders.) JR. TENNIS — Southern Open: The USTA's annual Boys & Girls Southern Open 18s tournament, both singles and doubles, (clay court), return to the Chapel Hill Tennis Club, with play continuing every day through July 17.

JULY 12
WACKY RELAY DAY — Charity event to raise money for local health causes, starting at 9 a.m. at UNC's Koury Natatorium.

JULY 16-19
SWIMMING — N.C. Age Group Championships, at Cary Aquatic Center.

JULY 17
GOLF — Swing for Hope: Funds from this tournament will help support the families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Durham. Breakfast and lunch are included. Costs $60. Shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at Hillandale Golf Course. For more information, call Hillandale at (919) 286-9309.

JR. TENNIS — Southern Open: Championship rounds of the USTA Southern Open 18s, at the Chapel Hill Tennis Club.

JULY 18
CYCLING — Bull Moon Ride: Wool E. Bull sets cyclists of on this 17-mile group ride past downtown Durham sites and Duke Chapel as the sun sets and then back on the American Tobacco Trail to Durham Bulls Athletic Park as the moon rises. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity. Check-in at 7:30 p.m. at the DBAP, ride sets off at 8:30 p.m. For more information, see www.durhamhabitat.org/bike/ or call the DBAP at (919) 682-0516.

JULY 18
SWIMMING — Summer League: Championship Meet, at Koury Natatorium. Junior swimmers start at 8 a.m.; senior swimmers' events start after noon break.

JULY 20
REC — Softball: (tentative) end of the regular season for Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation's Adult Softball League.

JULY 29
TRACK — Midsummer Madness. A highlight of the Godiva Track Club Summer Series, 'Madness' always includes special events, this year featuring a 1K race and a ultra special 5+7+5 "Haiku Wrath" Run (17 laps or about 4 1/4 miles). Everything starts at 7 p.m., Belk Track on the UNC campus.
