VOLLEYBALL

It was a big week for Chapel Hill volleyball, which won three matches in five days and finished the regular season at 20-4 overall. Not only did the Tigers defeat Riverside, Southern Vance and Orange, they did it in nine straight games, sweeping each one of their opponents. Megan McClusky, the lone senior on the CHHS team, finished up in fine form by accumulating 28 kills over the three matches. Kiaya Robinson made 30 kills and Katelyn Layden 25 for the week. Elise Healy had her best week of the season with 97 kills (at least 32 in each match).

Chapel Hill's most impressive win may have been the Tigers' last regular-season game at home, their 25-9, 25-12 25-17 win over Southern Vance on 'Senior Night' for McCluskey (10 kills, 5 blocks). Head coach Sherry Norris was able to rotate in most of her roster, and players like Nao Taguchi (5 aces) and Alex Taylor (6 digs, 4 blocks) made significant contributions.

But that wasn't to be Chapel Hill's last home game this year. The Tigers finished up 8-2 in play in the new Carolina-Nine 3-A Conference and locked up the league's No. 2 seed in the NCHSAA state playoffs. CHHS has a bye in next week's first-round of the Carolina-Nine tournament and hosts a second-round conference tournament game on Tuesday against an as-yet-undetermined opponent.
