The Chapel Hill and East Chapel Hill tennis teams swept through their respective PAC-6 competitions Wednesday. The Tigers stayed perfect by beating Jordan 6-0 to improve to 8-0, 5-0 in the PAC-6, while East's 6-0 win over Northern improved its mark to 6-3, 4-0. ... Jordan got past East Chapel Hill in both boys and girls track and field on Wednesday. The Falcon boys won narrowly, 77-69, while Jordan's girls cruised to a 92-54 win. ... The Lacrosse Day of Champions' marquee event on April 19 in Manhassset, N.Y., will be a showdown between Duke University and the Cadets of West Point. The events pays homage to Jimmy Regan, an Army Ranger killed in Iraq, who had been a standout lacrosse player at Manhasset and Duke. ... North Carolina junior heavyweight Justin Dobies won his first match Friday at the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championships but suffered a 5-3 loss to 12th-seeded Mark Ellis of Missouri and was eliminated in the fourth round of the consolation bracket at the Scottrade Center. Dobies ends his season with a career-best 32-8 record. ... Staying close to home has meant good news in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Five schools got to play first-round games in their home state in the first round and only one lost. North Carolina, Stanford, UCLA and Davidson all won in their home states, while South Alabama, playing in Birmingham, lost to Butler. ... The first round also was good to the Hansbrough family. Tyler had 21 points as North Carolina beat Mount St. Mary's 113-74. Sophomore brother Ben had five points as Mississippi State beat Oregon 76-69.
