The Chapel Hill Police Department and the Durham County Sheriff's Department played in the inaugural Guns and Hoses softball tournament at Homestead Park last weekend. The invitational pitted members of area fire, police and sheriffs' departments against each other in a double-elimination event for charity. Despite threatening weather, all three days of competition were completed and the Durham County Sheriff's team won the title with their colleagues from Durham Fire in second. Organizers were able to raise $3,000 for the UNC Burn Center through charitable donations. Sponsors for the event included GlaxoSmithKline, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Wentworth & Sloan, Partners in Health & Wellness, Tar Heel Packaging and Shipping, Optical Reflections and Great Clips.
