Hall-of-Fame basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell will stay as head coach of the UNC women's team, despite courting by South Carolina, which she said is one of "the few places" she would consider going because of the location and relationships she has in the state. Carolina fans caught a scare when news came out the Gamecocks wanted Hatchell, as Duke coach Gail Goestenkors left for Texas' big-money offer last year, but the Tar Heel athletic department plans to ensure its coach is appropriately compensated. ... UNC has been chosen to host the 2009 ACC Men's Lacrosse Tournament next April. Games will be played at Fetzer Field. It will mark the first time since 2004 that Carolina has hosted the ACC Tournament. ... Danny Green joined teammates Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington in declaring for the NBA Draft, but none of the three signed agents. The draft is set for June 26 and the trio has until ten days prior to decide if they want to forego their final eligibility or join reigning National Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough in a quest for the 2009 national crown.
