TFC SOCCER CARNIVAL -- Saturday, May 10, 10:30 a.m. Triangle Futbol Club (in association with Eurosport) sponsors this charity event to benefit the Baga Youth Football Association. Open to all boys and girls 6-12 years old, this free event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Herndon Park (near Southpoint Mall in Durham). Donations of new and used soccer equipment are welcome. The BYFA was founded by Oronde Ash (a former player for N.C. State and the St. Vincent/Grenadines Gold Cup team) to provide soccer balls and equipment to underprivileged youth in the Caribbean islands.

The regional runs through Saturday, at which time the top eight teams plus the top two individuals not on those eight teams will advance on to the NCAA Championship, May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. Softball vs. Virginia in ACC Championship Tournament first round, 3 p.m. (Tournament continues through Sunday, at College Park, Md.)

Tennis: NCHSAA individual regionals, opening rounds; Amir Najamabadi of Carrboro and other 2-A participants at Greene Central High School, beginning at 2 p.m. Multiple East Chapel Hill and CHHS players at 4-A regionals at Raleigh's Sanderson High School. (4-A was moved from original site at Cary.) Track & Field: NCHSAA 2-A state championships at N.C. A&T State University's Belk Track in Greensboro, All Day. Boys Lacrosse: NCHSLA Playoffs, second round.

YOUTH FISHING RODEO -- This free annual event for ages 3-15 years old (it's okay, your parents can come) attracts hundreds to the big pond at Bob Strayhorn's Farm, located between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough off NC 86 and New Hope Church Road. Rec departments will be on hand to provide bait and advice to little anglers 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The rain date is 1 p.m. June 8.
