Market Street Books will host PeepFest 2008 on Saturday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

No, not THAT kind of PeepFest. This one is a celebration of peeps, those marshmallow chicks and bunnies, often in colors you don't see anywhere else on earth, that kids love to eat.

This is Market Street's sixth annual celebration of peeps through literary, performance and culinary arts. Market Street Books is at 610 Market St. in Southern Village.

The theme of this year's festival is harmony, cooperation and peace: Imagine World Peeps.

While the driving spirit of PeepFest is fun and light-hearted, the organizers aim to foster positive change in the world by encouraging creativity, community and joy. Market Street Books will donate a portion of Saturday's sales to Reach Out and Read, a nonprofit that promotes early literacy.

Throughout the day there will be all the Peeps everyone can eat. Among the events on tap:

  • 11 a.m.: Peeps poetry-haiku recitation;
  • n Noon: Peeps MadLibs story and commercials with Jen Daum, artistic director of Hats Off Theatre Company;
  • 12:30 p.m.: Peeps cooking contest, with judges Sheri Castle, Dorette Snover and Sheila Neal;
  • 1 p.m.: Marshmallow cooking demonstration with chef Dorette Snover of C'est Si Bon cooking school;
  • 1:30 p.m.: Peeps jousting and peeps costume contest;
  • 2 p.m.: Peeplympics, including peeps games and a Peepyata (pinata), and face painting by Alex Deyneka;
  • 4-6 p.m.: When Cousins Marry Peeps Concert and announcement of peep parody album cover contest winners, judged by Kenni Hairston, David Terrenoire, and Joel Sheer.
