- An information session about applying for the spring cycle of art grants from the Orange County Arts Commission will be held April 10, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Chapel Hill Public Library, 100 Library Drive. - The Allcott Gallery in the UNC Hanes Art Center, 115 S. Columbia St., will open its annual honors show with a reception scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The gallery is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during the week. 962-2015
- ArtReach, a group of 20 local artists, is hosting an art exhibit at Community Realty Inc. 201 N. Greensboro St., Carrboro, through April 29. Thirty percent of all sales of the paintings and collages and 100 percent of proceeds from an artwork raffle will benefit The Chrysalis Foundation of Carrboro. - Maxine Swalin is turning 105, and the Chapel Hill Museum is helping her celebrate with an exhibit of her paintings, "Art is Just Around the Corner from Music." - Community artwork created for the 2008 Community Art Project will go on display April 15 at the following locations: ArtsCenter, Century Center, Carrboro Town Hall, Chapel Hill PTA Thrift Shop, Chapel Hill Public Library, Chapel Hill Town Hall, Jack Sprat Cafe, Open Eye Cafe,and The Robert and Pearl Seymour Center. - The Ackland Art Museum is part of the 2nd Friday Art Walk on April 11 and will have live music. On exhibit are "Perspectives on Public Justice," "Glorifying Patronage: Art in Service of Family, Fame, and Fortune," "Picturing the World: Carolina's Celebrated Photojournalists" and "The Pursuit of Learning: Images of Study, Scholarship, and Education." - The McDougle Elementary School Face Jug project is on exhibit through May 31 at Kidzu Children's Museum, 105 E. Franklin St., 933-1455. The project was sponsored by the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission's Artists@Work program.
- The Robert and Pearl Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Road, is showing "Silverarts," through April 10. This show is a component of the North Carolina Senior Games. Call Janice Tyler at 968-2071 about applying to exhibit at the center, which is open Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Main Street Gallery, 405 E. Main Street in Carrboro, is featuring new abstract works by Robert Cvetkovski, who will be on hand for a reception on April 11, 6-9 p.m. The show ends May 8. The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. 967-7005.

- "PepperPot: Multi Media Installation, Meaning, and the Medium in Contemporary Diasporic Art," is at the Robert and Sallie Brown Gallery and Museum in The Sonja Haynes Stone Center on the UNC-Chapel Hill Campus, 150 South Road, through May 11. - Tyndall Galleries, University Mall, is showing work by Louis St. Lewis in a show called "The Palimpsest Project, New Paintings," through Saturday. New oil paintings by Lynn Boggess go up on Tuesday. A reception is scheduled for April 12, 5-7 p.m. The show ends May 24. - The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill's new exhibit at the Horace Williams House is "Spicy Earth," drawings and paintings by Jyoti Duwadi. Duwadi uses a variety of spices and seeds from North America and Asia in some of his works. The show ends April 27. The Horace Williams House, 610 E. - "Elements of Visual Arts: Part One Ñ Textiles," featuring the work of 21 artists, is at The Carrboro Branch Library until Tuesday. Carol Blackmore of the Farmer's Market and Crowhill Rugs will lead a free Family Weaving Workshop on Sunday, 2-4 p.m. Call the library to register. On April 10, "Faces: A Collection" will open. This exhibit is the second part of Elements of Visual Arts, curated by John Rosenthal, and includes photographs by Artie Dixon, Ellen Glamportone, Roger Halle, Frank Hunter, Sonia Katohian, John Rosenthal, Caroline Vaughan, and Wojtek Wojdynski. A reception is scheduled for May 18, 2-4:30 p.m. The library is in the McDougle Schoo's Media Center, 900 Old Fayetteville Road, Carrboro. - The Carrboro Appearance Commission is inviting artists to enter a competition to create a plaque. Deadline is April 30. The plaque will be available for purchase by residential and commercial owners whose buildings meet certain criteria to qualify as historic Carrboro buildings. A $500 cash prize goes to the winner. - Bynum's annual ClydeFest honoring self-taught folk artist Clyde Jones, is set for April 26, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Bynum Ball Park, located off U.S. 15-501. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children aged 2-12, and free for infants. This year children will get to tour Jonesl yard. Jones will also create a Clyde critter on site to be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting ChathamArts. 542-0394, www.chathamarts.org.
