Art scene heats up in July

- Lowbrow pop surrealism works focusing on the styles of various Art Dork Collective contributors are on exhibit at Wootini in Carr Mill Mall. The work by artists Brendan Danielsson, Jason Murphy, Katie Ridley, and Meagan Ridley will be up through Aug. 5. 933-6061. www.wootini.com.
- Six art projects are to be incorporated into a new 25,000 square-foot library on the Pittsboro campus of Central Carolina Community College. - "Satan in a Bottle: A History of the Production and Control of Alcoholic Beverages in North Carolina" is on exhibit at Wilson Library on the UNC campus. - The Robert and Pearl Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Road, is featuring David Otto's photographs in "Natural Treasures of Chapel Hill and Carrboro" through July 31. A tea is scheduled on Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. to open an exhibit of paintings by David Sovero's students. - "Larger than Life: A Close Look at Flowers and Faces," watercolors by Barbara Keighton, opens July 13 with a reception at 4:30 p.m. at Market Street Books in Southern Village. The artist will raffle off a portrait. - Pick your party to help fund the Chapel Hill Museum's award-winning education programs. On July 17, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Chapel Hill's Ya-Ya Sisterhood for a Day ... Ladies Only party will be held. Participants will swim at a local private home. A water aerobics instructor will be on hand. Lounge, lunch and a home-cooked feast. - The Ackland Art Museum is part of the 2nd Friday Art Walk and has live music. On exhibit is "In and Around the Garden, Perspectives East and West," "Glorifying Patronage: Art in Service of Family, Fame, and Fortune," "Contemporary Drawings from the Ackland Collection," "The Art of Love," and "Flowing Like Water: The Art of Liquidity." - Main Street Gallery, 405 E. Main Street in Carrboro, will hold a reception July 11, 6-9 p.m., to celebrate artwork created by the late Lynn M. Igoe. - The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill's new exhibit at the Horace Williams House opens Sunday with a reception from 2-4 p.m. "Through the Ground Glass," is a collection of still life and portrait photographs by C. Christopher Morgan printed using the wet-plate collodion process. The show ends July 27. The Horace Williams House, 610 E. - "The Library's First Juried Painting Exhibition" is at The Carrboro Branch Library. This exhibit, the third part of Elements of Visual Arts, features the work of 14 painters selected by Kenneth Rodgers, Director of the North Carolina Central University Museum and also a painter.
