•Sharon Stevens is creating a new piece of art every day for a year in memory of her mother, who died of breast cancer in 2007. Her odyssey of art began on Dec. 19, 2007, and will end on Dec. 18 of this year. All proceeds from the sale of the art will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure's N.C. Triangle Affiliate, the Chapel Hill Service League, The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, The ArtsCenter and CARE. The art and more is at www.ArtforMyMom.com.

•Womancraft Fine Handcrafted Gifts at The Shops at Eastgate in Chapel Hill will hold its annual storewide sale Nov. 7 and 8.

•The students and instructors at The ArtsCenter's ceramics studio hold sales of their work during the monthly 2nd Friday ArtWalk, which this month is on Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m. Some of the proceeds are used to purchase supplies for the studio.

•The Fourteenth Annual Open Studio Tour opened last weekend and continues this weekend. Details are at www.orangecountyartistsguild.com. See samples of the artists' work at The ArtsCenter, 300-G E. Main St., Carrboro, and at the Burwell School, 319 N. Churton St. in Hillsborough.

•Mixed media artist Charron Andrews is exhibiting her work in a show, "Reclaiming the Divine: Art from Recycled Materials," at the Community Church of Chapel Hill, 106 Purefoy Road. The space is open noon-2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and on Sundays before or after services. shrinemaker@mail.com.

•"Black Dreams and Silver Screens: Black Film Posters, 1921-2004 from the Alden and Mary Kimbrough Collection," is in the Robert and Sallie Brown Gallery and Museum at The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History. •French artist Zaven Pare is a new media artist who combines robotics and multimedia interface technologies to create works he calls Electronic Marionettes. Pare will give a talk about his work on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Hanes Art Center Auditorium, 115 S. Columbia Street. 962-2015.

•Brushes with Life artists will be exhibiting artwork through Nov. 12 at the FedEx Global Education Center, 301 Pittsboro Street, Chapel Hill. Also at the FedEx center, a photo and artifact exhibit of Eng and Chang, the famous Siamese Twins who lived in North Carolina, will be on display Nov. 8-13. On Nov. 15, an exhibition of Human Rights posters by the printmaking classes of the UNC Art Department will be on display. The Center for Global Initiatives Annual Photography Exhibition opens on Nov. 17 with a reception at 4 p.m. The exhibit ends Feb, 1, 2009. 962-0318.

•Wootini, in Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro, in showing Music Sound Research, an exhibit that features pieces from North Carolina musicians in media including photography, drawings, serigraphy, woodwork and paintings. The show ends Nov. 10. 933-6061.

•Amy Gelber will open a show of her ceramic sculptures at Chapel Hill Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., on Nov. 10 . A reception is sheduled for Nov. 14, 5-7 p.m. The show ends Jan., 2, 2009.

•Tava Boehm and Natasha Johnson open a show of their photography at the Chapel Hill Public Library, 100 Library Drive, on Nov. 7. The show ends Jan. 14, 2009. The library is open Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-8 p.m.

•"Town Treasures," a collection of black-and-white photographs by Catharine Carter of outstanding senior citizens who have made and/or documented Chapel Hill-Carrboro history, will be on display at the Chapel Hill Museum through Nov. 30. Ceramic artist Sally Bowen Prange, who died in 2007 at the age of 80 after living in Chapel Hill for 46 years, is being honored by a show, "Sally Bowen Prange Remembered," at the Chapel Hill Museum through Jan. 4, 2009. The museum is at 523 E. Franklin St., and is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wed.-Sat., and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday. www.chapelhillmuseum.org, 967-1400.

•The Fourth Annual Nouveau Night to benefit the Chapel Hill Museum will be held Nov. 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Beaujolais Nouveau wines and food from some of our best restaurants. Advance tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple. The night of the event they are $35 and $60. Call 929-7467 or 967-1400.

•Works by Maggi Grace will be on exhibit in "Light Dreams," Nov. 6-Dec. 5 at Fleet Feet, 406 E. Main St. in Carrboro. A reception will be held Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m.

•The ArtsCenter is showing paintings and drawings by Louise Zjawin Francke through Nov. 29 in an exhibit, "Magnetic Faces, Petraits, Portraits and Zootraits." A reception will be held Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m. Artwork by artists of the Orange County Artists' Guild is on exhibit through Nov. 11. Work by artists on the Chatham Studio Tour goes up Nov. 18 and runs through Dec. 15, with a reception scheduled for Dec. 5, 7-9 p.m. www.artscenterlive.org, 929-2787.

•"Lifting the Veil of Night," photographs by Ellen Giamportone, is on exhibit at the Horace Williams House, 610 E. Rosemary Street, Chapel Hill, through Nov. 16. On Nov. 23, Silvia Heyden opens her show of "Eno River Tapestries," with a reception from 7-9 p.m., during which she will give a brief talk. The show runs through Dec. 21. These exhibits are organized by the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill. The house is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sunday, 1-4 p.m. 942-7818.

•The Jesse Kalisher Gallery, 209 E. •On exhibit at Wilson Library through Jan. 31, 2009, is "Soapboxes and Tree Stumps: Political Campaigning in North Carolina." "Campaigns of Race in the Solid South: Selected Campaign Materials from the Southern Historical Collection," is on display through Jan. 15, 2009. On Nov. 20, at 5:45 p.m., Beth Lau will give a lecture on "Keats and His Circle Reading Shakespeare to open the exhibit, "Presenting John Keats." •The Robert and Pearl Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Road, is featuring a show of pastel works by Dan Vaughan through Nov. 24. A tea on Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. opens a show of work by center instructor Chick Weber and his students. •"If You Don't Stop to Look...," an exhibit of photography by Margaret Clemmer, will be on display through Nov. 28 at the Women's Health Information Center art gallery on the ground floor of the N.C. The 2009 "Women's Art for Women's Wellness" calendar, created by the UNC Hospitals' Women's Health Information Center, showcases art featuring women from 13 local artists. Cost is $13. •The Ackland Art Museum will be part of the 2nd Friday Art Walk on Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m. On exhibit to celebrate the Ackland's 50th anniversary is "Circa 1958: Breaking Ground in American Art." Also on exhibit is "The Fifties and the Anti-Fifties in Robert Frank's The Americans," and "Feminine and Masculine in Ovid's Poetry and Early Modern Art." •Main Street Gallery, 405 E. Main Street in Carrboro, will hold a reception Nov. 14, 6-9 p.m., to open a show called "Three Generations of Artists!" The exhibit includes work by Letty DeLoatch, a painter; her son Don Rose, a metal sculptor; and granddaughter Jordan Rose, a ceramicist. The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. 967-7005.

•"Moving the Line-The Art of Drawing," curated by Barbara Keighton and Louise Francke, is the new show at The Carrboro Branch Library. This exhibit, the fourth and final part of Elements of Visual Arts, features the work of 18 local artists. Letty DeLoatch will give a free drawing workshop for those 14 and older on Jan. 11, 2009, 2-4:30 p.m. Call the library to register. •The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is showing paintings by Chris Graebner and Ellie Reinhold and blown glass by Pringle Teetor in a show, "Three Visions," through Nov. 15. On Nov. 13, Hillsborough Merchants will have "Ladies Night Out," and the gallery will be open until 9 p.m. with refreshments.
