The Ackland Art Museum at UNC will open the first major retrospective of collage and assemblage artist Aldwyth with a public reception on Sunday. The show, 'Aldwyth: Work v./Work n.: Collage and Assemblage 1991- 2009,' will be on display at the Ackland until Sept. 13, and will then travel to several other museums throughout the country. Aldwyth, 73, creates astonishingly intricate collages and assemblages that recall the fantastical intricacies of Hieronymus Bosch. Her pieces can take years to make; scores of minute images painstakingly hand-pasted to Japanese paper combine in works such as 'Casablanca (classic version),' measuring close to six feet square and made up of hundreds of eyeballs lifted from classic works of art, accompanied by a detailed index cataloging the origin of each eyeball. 'Aldwyth: Work v/Work n.' features 51 pieces, including 10 large collages, seven small collages, and 34 assemblages. Aldwyth herself will be in attendance for the free public opening reception Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. She also will give the Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture on Sept. 8, and will be at a special Member's Preview, for Ackland members and special guests only, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. 966-5736,
