Saturday is the Fourth of July, and along with fireworks, ice cream and stars and stripes, the holiday means music. Festivities thoughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro will be accompanied by live entertainment from performers playing everything from classic American standards to Motown, old-time music and rock n' roll. The Village Band (at top) may be the busiest group in town; they'll start the day playing in Carrboro's annual July 4 celebration at Carrboro Town Hall at 10:30 a.m., and then they'll pack up and head for the Horace Williams House, 610 E. Rosemary St., Chapel Hill, to play at the Chapel Hill Preservation Society's annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration at 1:15 p.m. Back in Carrboro, you can enjoy the Bolin Creek Harmony Boys, Cane Creek Cloggers, Big Mama E and the Cool (above) and the MIghty Gospel Inspirations. Over at Kenan Stadium on the UNC campus, Johnny White & The Elite Band will warm up the crowd before the fireworks with a concert of top-40, Motown, beach music, R&B and more, at 8 p.m. It's all free.
